Clean energy is a growing necessity for sustainable development and for aiding the planet against climate change. 90% of carbon dioxide emissions come from burning fossil fuels, and although 29% of current electricity is provided by renewables, emissions have to be cut in half by 2030 and almost completely removed by 2050.

This World Day follows the Sustainable Development Goals 7 (Affordable And Clean Energy), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action).
