The UN General Assembly proclaimed 29 August the International Day
against Nuclear Tests in 2009, bringing to attention “the effects of
nuclear weapon test explosions or any other nuclear explosions and the
need for their cessation as one of the means of achieving the goal of a
nuclear-weapon-free world.” The day is observed through many activities
and governmental and civil actions.

This World Day follows the Sustainable Development Goals 16 (Peace,
Justice and Strong Institutions) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).

This first World Lake Day covers 117 million lakes, 4% of planet surface with 90% freshwater above ground. By 2050 quality could drop 20% due to pollution and climate change, making protection and conservation all the more important.

This World Day follows the Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life On Land).
